Ensoft organises a ‘walking weekend’ social event each year taking place shortly after the new graduates join in September.
In 2015 we based ourselves at the Rotary Centre, Castleton and had a couple of days of walking and/or cycling around the Peak District.
The usual format applied with employees and partners piling into mini-buses on Friday lunchtime and
cruising up sitting on the motorway before a relaxing evening of food and drink at the nearby Peak Hotel pub followed by more hijinks and merriment into the early hours back at base.
Saturday presented bleary eyes and dreary weather and the walking groups set off with the full spectrum of attitudes – enthusiastic to highly reluctant. We’d been assured of lovely views from the various ridges that we’d be on or along but the weather prevented these from ever being realised as rain and mist were never far away. Highlights of the 26-mile walk included trying to avoid leaving shoes behind in the boggy marshes, getting drenched descending Grindsbrook Clough and the refreshing drink at the pub in Edale.
Saturday evening brought the traditional BBQ and some well-earned relaxation that once again went on longer than sensible. For those that still had the energy then Sunday featured a shorter walks or a cycle ride before everyone tidied up, piled back into the mini buses and headed back to Harpenden.
